The fat knight Falstaff harks back to the good old days. Despite his immense size he has, of course, retained his powers over women and he sends identical love letters to two of the Merry Wives of Windsor. They are neither flattered nor amused and lead him a merry dance, culminating in his humiliation – not once but twice. There is never a dull moment in this punchy production of Verdi’s comic opera.
Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
