The new Spring & Summer season crammed full of superb professional theatre, music, film, dance, comedy and variety as well as new work from our thriving youth theatres and great additions to the programme from local amateur societies. Please support it all!
Highlights this season include a visit from world-renowned Trestle with their production of Lola – The Life of Lola Montez in collaboration with Spanish company Increpación Danza. Exploring this infamous actress and courtesan’s life, which had very humble Irish beginnings, will bring a real fire to St. Patrick’s night at the theatre.
The international theme continues with The False Servant, part of the Paris Calling 09 season. We are very proud to be part of this collaboration with top venues all over the country, and the show promises to range from high drama to great comedy – in two languages. Try it and see!
We move next to New Zealand with a haunting piece called Pioneers, a story told through music and song of the extraordinary journey made by inhabitants of the British Isles to set up home on the other side of the world.
Italy follows with Mario Pirovano’s superb performance of Dario Fo’s Francis the Holy Jester. Don’t miss the chance to see an extraordinary perfomer in action. Language is truly no barrier.
As well as our regular Comedy Club (give it a go!), we feature the seriously funny one-woman show Gusset and all-female sketch show, Mutton, and for (possibly) a younger crowd, Flhip Flhop – Everything Happens on the Break.
Watch out too for the latest offering from the award-winning Watermill Theatre, a new musical called Bubbles. This promises to be a real jewel in the season and plays for two nights in June just after our visit from New English Contemporary Ballet.
Don’t miss our Family shows in February, music from Jive Aces and Jazz legend Digby Fairweather or the now traditional Police Panto and Thanet Gang Show, as well as other performances from local amateur groups Stardust Theatre (A Chorus Line) and Ramsgate Operatic’s night of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Lots of activity in our Youth Theatres means that there are two shows this season from them: The Miracle and Macbeth: Street Wars. Why not join our brilliant groups?
At time of going to press we have been successful in becoming part of the Free Theatre Initiative. This means that for selected shows (look out for the symbol) a limited number of tickets will be be available free for anyone under 26. They will be given out on a first-come-first served basis and can only be booked on 0845 130 1786. The offer does not apply to school groups and terms and conditions apply. Tell your friends!
I’d like to thank our Friends, award-winning Volunteers, Technical crew, Bar staff, our funders and business sponsors, our Board and our wonderful staff team at the theatre – come and join us! I look forward to seeing you at your theatre.
