Margate Young Writers Squad would like to hear from you!
We are expanding the Margate Young Writers Squad and we’re seeking enthusiastic young writers aged 13-17.
The Squad, led by award-winning writer and performer, Dean Atta and supported by playwright Sarah Davies, includes:
• Introductions to a wide range of writing styles
• Support to develop your skills
• Visits from invited published writers and performers
• Opportunities to gain support as part of an online community of young writers in the region
Margate Writer Squad will meet once a month for six Saturday morning sessions (10am – 1pm) from February 18 to 21 July at Theatre Royal, Margate.
If you would like to apply to be part of the Margate Writer Squad, send a sample piece of your writing (at least 300 words) in any genre, responding to the title ‘MARGATE’ with your, name, age, address
and e-mail address to:

The 15 lucky writers will be contacted after the workshop. There is a small fee of £15 for the course, though some bursaries are available. Margate Writers Squad is a New Writing South project supported by Arts Council, England.

New Writing South works with all kinds of creative writers and new writing in the south east region: authors, playwrights, poets, screen writers, radio writers, journalists and more. Dean Atta
Dean Atta is a poet, playwright, writer/performer, actor and esteemed writing facilitator with young people. Winner of the Spirit of London Award for 'Achievement through the Arts', he was commissioned to write poems for Damilola Taylor Trust, Keats House, London Transport Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Tate Britain and Tate Modern. Dean has been featured on TV, radio and online platforms, such as BBC 1Xtra, BBC Radio 4 and BBC 6 Music, BET and Channel 4 and invited to perform everywhere, from the Roundhouse to City Hall, Hackney Empire to the Houses of Parliament. His words know no limits!
