Margate theatres unite

Thanet Leisureforce has today agreed terms with Thanet District Council for the management of the Theatre Royal, Margate. The current operations of the Theatre Royal will fully transfer to Thanet Leisureforce and all existing contracts and programmed events will be unaffected by this change.

Thanet Leisureforce will undertake a review of the current business to ensure the theatre is able to continue to operate within the reduced available budget whilst building on the successes achieved by the Theatre Royal Trust and the current management.

Steve Davis, Managing Director of Thanet Leisureforce commented “I am delighted that we have been able to assist the Council with securing the future of the Theatre Royal and building on its past success. We are confident that by combining some of the management resources with those of the Winter Gardens we will be able to make the necessary efficiencies to secure the long term future of both venues. The provision of a diverse range of live theatre involving both community groups and professionals across both venues will continue to play an important part of the regeneration of Margate and East Kent.
We look forward to developing the programme of entertainment and educational opportunities with other interested stakeholders for the benefit of the local community and visitors to the area”.

Thanet District Council Cabinet member for Community Services, Councillor Iris Johnston added, “Our successful partnership with Thanet Leisureforce continues to provide the Council with a cost effective route for the delivery of our leisure and hospitality services in Thanet and we are confident they can assist us in safeguarding the future of this much loved theatre. The Theatre Royal remains important to us and the local community and we will continue to work with other agencies to ensure its continued success.”
